About Us

The Canada Confederation of Shenzhen Associations (the "Confederation") was officially founded in Toronto in September 2016. Guided by the principles of "unity and inclusiveness, innovation and growth, mutual support, and win-win cooperation," and carrying forward the unique spirit of Shenzhen, the Confederation has grown over the past decade into an umbrella organization with seven member associations and 20 interest clubs, bringing together thousands of members. It has become one of the most influential and innovative Chinese-Canadian community organizations in Canada.

Since its founding, under the joint leadership of its board and with the active participation of its members, the Confederation has pioneered new ways of serving and uniting local Chinese Canadians while promoting economic, trade, and cultural exchange between Canada and China. First, by successfully hosting a series of science, technology, and cultural exchange events year after year, it has earned a reputation as a "new benchmark for Shenzhen community organizations in Canada." Second, through its sustained coordination and advocacy, the Confederation helped bring about the Friendship-city partnership between Toronto and Shenzhen in 2016, earning it recognition as an "outstanding civil diplomatic ambassador." Third, the Confederation organizes signature trade and cultural exchange events every year, strengthening people-to-people cooperation between Canada and China and building stronger bonds among Shenzhen-connected Chinese Canadians. The Confederation also welcomes members connected to Shenzhen through any of five kinds of ties — having lived, worked, studied, done business, or having family/friends there — to join and take part in its activities.

Through a wide range of community activities and services, the Confederation helps new immigrants integrate into mainstream Canadian society, supports local economic development and employment, promotes cultural diversity, and backs charitable causes. At the same time, it actively speaks up for the rights and interests of local Chinese Canadians, helping bring about greater unity and cohesion among the Shenzhen-connected community in Canada. This work has drawn strong attention and broad recognition from both the Chinese-Canadian community and mainstream Canadian society. In 2019, the Confederation received a "Special Recognition Award" personally presented by the Mayor of Toronto, the deputy mayor, and city councillors.

Looking ahead, the Confederation will continue to build harmonious relationships with the people of Canada and the broader Chinese-Canadian community, working together with mutual respect, unity, and cooperation toward shared growth — showcasing to the world the unique character of Shenzhen-connected Canadians and Chinese Canadians as a whole.
